The Refugee Buddy Project believes building a fairer, safer society for people seeking sanctuary also means standing alongside others working for change.

Here are some of the movements we join and promote:

Communities Not Camps

We support the Communities Not Camps campaign led by Asylum Matters, which opposes the use of large-scale, institutional accommodation such as barracks and barges for people seeking asylum. This campaign advocates for community-based housing and dignified support.

Safe Passage

We back the work of Safe Passage International, which campaigns for safe, legal routes to sanctuary — especially for children and families. We are calling for the government to urgently establish new safe routes to stop lives being lost in the Channel. We ask for new safe routes with a refugee visa and for the family reunion system to be fixed.

Patients Not Passports

As a member of the Patients Not Passports network, coordinated by Docs Not Cops and Medact, we advocate for healthcare that is truly universal. We support efforts to resist NHS charging regimes that deter migrants and refugees from accessing essential healthcare — and we join calls for equal treatment for all.

The Fair Immigration Movement (FIRM) Charter

We support the FIRM Charter to call for humane immigration and inclusion policies that truly reflect our society’s democratic values and draw on a distinguished history in Britain of standing for the dignity and justice of all. The demands in the Charter are the basic rights well established by international law, the UN Migration Compact and other key documents to which the UK Government is already a signatory. The Hostile Environment is brutal, extreme and must be stopped with a full system change.
