Delivering Education and Training

The Refugee Buddy Project designs and delivers high-quality training sessions that build confidence and cultural understanding in those working with people seeking sanctuary. Our sessions are grounded in lived experience, delivered by skilled facilitators, and shaped by the day-to-day realities of supporting people who are rebuilding their lives in the UK.

Cultural Curiosity Training

Since 2023, we’ve partnered with East Sussex County Council to develop and deliver our Cultural Curiosity training. The programme has supported staff to develop deeper insight into the experiences of refugees and migrants and offered practical tools for building trust, empathy, and inclusive practice in frontline services.

By June 2024, we had delivered over 20 sessions to more than 200 delegates, including bespoke workshops for:

  • School staff

  • Library teams

  • Social workers

Feedback from early sessions was overwhelmingly positive:

  • 98% were ‘likely’ or ‘very likely’ to recommend the training

  • 96% rated subject knowledge and delivery as ‘excellent’

  • 88% reported increased knowledge, skills and understanding

  • 75% rated the training’s effectiveness as ‘excellent’, with a further 23% rating it ‘good’

Bespoke Training

We are now developing our training offer for a wider range of organisations and sectors. Our current areas of focus include:

We can tailor training to the needs of your team — whether you work in education, health, the arts, local government or community services.

Our training is suitable for:

  • Schools and colleges

  • Public sector organisations

  • Charities and community groups

  • Cultural and heritage institutions

  • Volunteer and buddy programmes
